Purple potatoes and green bean destruction

Chris isn’t really into the gardening part of the garden, but he does like the eating part, lol.  So I was surprised when he was paging through a seed catalog and asked if I could plant some purple potatoes and purple carrots this year.  So I ordered two pounds of Purple Majesty potatoes, and this afternoon, I dug one up to see how far they were.  The tops are starting to brown, so I guess potato harvest will be in the near future.

Meanwhile, my green beans were looking great until a few days ago.  I went out to do the morning watering and noticed about a third of them had been eaten or destroyed.  So, Chris set the game cam on the raised bed, and this is what we caught that evening.

I don’t want to mess with putting up a fence, nor do I really have the time, so I’m trying the red pepper deterrent, where you simply shake red pepper flakes on the plants.  So far, seems to be working, but we finally got a soaking rain today so I’ll have to go out and reapply.

If you have a gardening or homesteading blog, drop me a link in the comments so I can follow along!

  1. Ohhhhhhhh those rabbits. They can do a lot of damage in a short amount of time. We have two snowshoe hares I let the dogs chase now and then as a reminder to not get too close.
